MY STORY

A journey through color, culture, and creativity.

MEET THE ARTIST

My name is Marilyn H. Johnson. I am a self-taught artist. I gained my interest in art through my mother. She was trying to find ways to keep me from following her around the kitchen. To solve that problem, she would tear up brown paper bags and then give me a pencil. She told me to draw her a story. From then on, I could not put down my pencils, crayons, and paper. My love of drawing was interrupted by the death of my beloved mother, College, raising two children, and running my own personnel management Company. After my final retirement, I started dabbling in sketchbooks using Pencils and crayons.

I was hooked all over again. I took art classes specializing in the realism of animals and people. That kind of painting made me feel limited looking for perfections in proportions and measurements. I needed artwork that allowed me to be free. I love bright bold colors. I started to imitate the styles of Charles Bibbs, Frank Morrison and Charlie Palmer. They all used bright bold Afrocentric styles and I knew that was my direction. I create art specializing in colorful abstracts and Afrocentric women.

Each piece in my collection is original, hand-drawn, and painted. I do not use artificial intelligence (AI) in any of my work. Because the work is original there may be small imperfections. I can provide professional prints if requested. I offer free shipping in the continental United States. Please note that due to the unique nature of these original works, all sales are final and I cannot accept returns. You may contact me at johnsonmarilyn77@gmail.com
